THE STORY BEHIND A TRANSPLANT FOR JIMMY.

Jimmy Stogner is a 27 year old man, whom has a love for music, friends, family and life.

He is a victim of a Drunk Driver

On June 8th, 2008 Jimmy was hospitalized at Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, Florida. Thanks to the surgical team at ORMC. They saved Jimmy's life.

Jimmy was leaving a local venue with a couple of friends.  The driver felt that she was okay to drive, and Jimmy and another friend proceeded to get in the vehicle with her.

According to the police report and eye witness accounts, she was driving erratically at speeds of 80 mph heading eastbound on I-4. She lost control of her vehicle and slammed head-on into the Florida turnpike overpass concrete wall. The impact was so strong that the vehicle burst into flames immediately and Jimmy was pulled from the vehicle by one of the witnesses.

Jimmy suffered severe, life threatening injuries. A femur bone was broken; the bottoms of his feet were badly burned; one of his lower lumbar was broken; his bowels ruptured inside of him; the lower part of his aorta was severed in two. A main artery going to his intestines from the aorta was damaged. This artery supplied blood and oxygen to the small intestines and the right side of the colon. As a result of this injury, Jimmy has lost his small intestines and the entire right side of his colon.

Doctors have assured us that a small intestinal transplant is required in order for Jimmy to live a normal full life. He can no longer eat any foods.

His body is being sustained by a liquid food called TPN. Within 5 years the TPN will deteriorate his liver. This increases the likely hood that the longer it takes to get the intestinal transplant, and then he may also need a liver transplant. The longer he waits for the transplant the higher his risk for infections, which decreases his chances of receiving a transplant.

UPDATES ON JIMMY:

The update on September 2008 is that Medicaid has confirmed with us that they will cover the cost of the transplant itself.  We would like to give many thanks to all who have kept Jimmy in their prayers.

Prayers are being answered!

The Fund raising we do will now help with all of the costs related to the transplant that Medicaid will not cover.

This will include cost to get to Jackson Memorial in Miami FL, for Jimmy to be evaluated and put on the transplant list. It will also cover costs that will be incurred during the time it takes leading up to and after the transplant. The expected recovery time is 6 to 8 months.

THE LATEST AND MOST EXCITING....    Jimmy has had the transplant guy’s on Saturday January 10th 2009!!!!!
He did amazing!!! We are so proud of him for his strength, courage and positive attitude. He is currently still in Special ICU, where he will remain for approximately another week or two all depending on things go. He will then be moved to regular ICU then to the rehab center for full rehabilitation. This process will take approximately another 6 months. Only time now can tell the exact estimate of time recovery.

As of January 26th, 2009 Jimmy is still doing well. He is currently in a regular room at the hosiptal starting physical theropy. He is still in a remarkable amount of pain but is moving in the right direction.  Jimmy is in need of some extra love and susport from all his friends. So now is the time to send a few words of encouragement.

As of Febuary 28th, 2009.     Jimmy is going through some complications. He is running fevers and he has a fluid that is filling his stomach which they are not able to get under control at this time. His stomach is not draining on its own, but they are still running tests and trying to resolve the problem. Tests results are due soon and we will follow up with more details. Jimmy is really feeling emotionally drained and needs support from everyone. Reach out and let him know you care.
